When I retired from NCR in January 1994, I had a lot of time, but I had no job. After the earthquake the company called us back, but they paid only 10 bucks an hour, so it wasn’t “cost effective” for me. I quit after a few weeks. I mentioned this on the radio before the Convention in April and WN8RQC Mihály offered a room at his house for the duration of the Convention. I accepted it with gratitude and off I went. He and his wife Margaret were very gracious hosts and I met their son Mike, WB8MRU and his wife and children.
The three day event was a lot of fun in spite of the cool weather. We checked out the radio and antenna manufacturers’ exhibits and the giant swap meet. The gala evening was a nice finish to the event. Many friendships were born or reinforced. Since then my host and many others passed away and became silent keyes.
