The Death of a Palm Tree
This was a nice palm tree and provided shade during the hot summer afternoons until it grew too high. Then I worried about it interfering with my yagi antenna and killed it by cutting off its fronds at the top. The dry hairy bark became a fire hazard, so I decided to cut it down. It had a huge trunk, but luckily the roots were surprisingly small, so I didn’t have to dig too much and deep. With a rope around its neck we could pull it down fairly quickly and easy. The chain saw was cutting it like butter. Then with a heavy axe we cut the root in half so we could load the pieces on our Toyota pickup and hauled it to the refuse dump site. We made two trips, and paid $40.00. We probably saved a thousand bucks by doing it all ourselves.
