Since we are retired we decided to buy a new car that will hopefully last our lifetime. Our choice of cars had to meet the following requirements: it had to be reliable, durable, have enough power for towing, good gas mileage and good looks for a reasonable price. We looked at several brands like Mitsubishi, Nissan, Honda and Toyota. There was something we liked on all, but none of them met all the requirements except the Toyota Highlander. We bought the Highlander in the midst of the Toyota controversy and had no concern with the alleged safety issue. We picked the one with a 2,7 liter four cylinder engine that has 187 HP that can easily pull a small trailer or a boat. During the break-in period we got over 27 mpg on street and highway combined and we can live with that. The car was made in Japan, so we have even more peace of mind when it comes to dependability and longevity.
