Go Ahead, Make My Day!
One of the many exciting modes in ham radio is mobile operation. You choose the bands you want to operate on, install the mobile antenna(s) and the radio and you can have fun when you commute to work or when you go on a long trip to the corporate location across the country or on vacation. Most people use a 2m radio for local work through repeaters or simplex, but many hams have a shortwave radio also in their cars for long distance contacts.

First I installed the antenna mount on the tow hitch, the ground and the coax to the antenna. Then I selected a place for the radio's body and laid out the 12V power cable from the battery. Then I selected a location for the control panel of the radio, also called the head on the dashboard. Finally I connected it all together.

Motorcycle Mobile
To take the boredom out of riding a motorcycle I installed a handheld radio first on my Kawasaki Vulcan 750 then on my B.M.G.D.M. (Big Mean Green Dream Machine) and enjoyed the commute for years, splitting the lanes. The radio I've been using is a tough little Icom IC-2GAT 7W FM transceiver and it's been in service since 1991 without a problem.
